FRISKABTE (2023)
Theatre play
FRISKABTE is a genre clash between theatre, video art, installation art, performance, and live music. It is a theatre play, a concert, and an exorcism all at the same time. It was originally shown in November 2023 for a limited period, but due to raging reviews and audience requests, FRISKABTE had another go in June 2024.
In FRISKABTE, the audience is placed in a bedchamber, where one can feel the shame lingering after the pages of the book. A novel about a homo sexual boy and man’s life in the aftermath of a father’s death and the ideals of masculinity he tried to live up to. It is a story about the life project that can lead to stepping out of one’s social heritage and looking for a new one. Mejdahl merges the book with his own private life. Old family photos, private home videos, and scary diary notes from his childhood all clash with uncanny animations, electronic soundscapes and power prose.
The music is created in cooperation with Polish queer musician Femmexy, and on stage with Kim Mejdahl is musician Henriette Sennenvaldt, former lead singer of the renowned Aarhusian band Under Byen.
